YouTube Find Thread
Re: YouTube Find Thread
Apart from holding back his tears, I’m just impressed at how articulate and deep he is in his reflections about what occurred:
Blow: "Nowadays even Liam can release an album of his screechy vocals and it'll probably go #1..."
Ramzus: I can admit that I'm horny just about 24/7
homomorphism: I used to not think your name was deshay and that Erick was just being racist
Hunter: sometimes I think I was literally born to be a pornstar

TIL the word “penetrate” is problematic.

I stopped at 42 minutes to take a break but it’s an excellent video. I now get why you’re always hating on me. You’re Squidward.

Just think of how insufferable you could be if you discovered Nietzschean philosophy twenty years earlier.
Did you finish the video? I have conflicting feelings about her conclusions.

I finished it yesterday. What are these conflicting feelings? Are you sure it’s not just gas?

Re: YouTube Find Thread
I don't like it when left-wing people punch left. I think there was plenty to say about the subject without dissing the CCP or comparing the idea of revolution with rapture. (She said on twitter that she was criticizing the Cultural Revolution and not the War of Liberation, but that was not my reading when I watched it.) It's not even that I disagree exactly, but it's an argument from psychoanalysis that lacks analytical historical rigor and flatters the worst impulses of centrist libs. Those people would go back in time and undo the French Revolution if they could.

Self-congratulatory complacency, the ability to rationalize the belief that nothing can or should be changed, scornful disdain of anyone who advocates for radical reform.

What are some radical reforms you want to see be undertaken? I want to know how much you’ve changed from your days of being a capitalist shill.

Re: YouTube Find Thread
I have the benefit of being a lazy sob who doesn't have to work out his precise strategic goals because they're so far outside the realm of possibility that it just isn't necessary. In this country, a public option for healthcare is considered radical. I'm more or less resigned that our only option is to slowly whittle away at neoliberal policy through democratic means (and ideally building political momentum through labor organizing). I could talk in a more abstract sense about what I think is or isn't morally justified, but... I'd rather not. It changes depending on my mood.

Just as a random recommendation, this guy Nick DiRamio does media reviews, mostly of kids movies you probably grew up watching if you're a younger millennial. He's hilarious and I love him. Some good ones:

Were you one of those really gay kids who watched content from the Disney Channel and owned a Hillary Duff album?

I wish I was that gay when I was young. I spent 8th grade reading Kafka and being unhappy. Honestly I only knew a couple items from this guy's catalogue, but I'm familiar with a lot of it in a passive sense.

I guess I'm on a masculine non-binary media criticism kick. I discovered this guy today and I'm obsessed with him. He just rants about art and has energy I can only describe as drunk and manic.

If you want to go through an entire journey of existential confusion and despair, watch this one
His primary point of reference for the political part is the book "Kill All Normies" (by Angela Nagle). Remember that one pooler? It's a surprisingly potent synthesis of that book's observations about how politics play out on the internet with Bo Burnham's artistic, personal portrayal of life lived on social media.

I love watching this channel. Hearing what people of the past thought, in their own words is really great.
