All I'm going to say is have a look at who win last time Austria hosted. ;)
Don't think about doing it tomorrow. You won't do it tomorrow. Do it today.

I really hope we can't. There are rumours in the papers that the IOC is looking to bring the Olympics back to London because Rio has made such a fucking hash of it, an Olympics and an international song contest would make for so much extra work for me.

Entering a bid for the Olympics is a dangerous thing- you might actually win and have to pay for it. Hosting Eurovision is mix of national pride and throwing a hot potato around. Of all the cities in the continent, I can't think of a single one less likely to want to host the ESC than Vienna

That aside, I thought the overall standard of the songs was lower than in previous years. Too many bland pop/rock songs, not enough crazy ethnic stuff going on.

My faves were Greece (hottest singers) and Poland. I liked the flag video thing this year, and the staging was good all round. The big 5 were awful.

I watched the thing with my family (as I always do - it's kind of a family tradition) and we all agreed that the song quality is actually increasing. The songs have been great during the past few years.

As for Poland - I don't know who liked this. Even my father (who loves tits) thought the song was horrible.

But I did love the Greek song.

Brenden wrote:I didn't watch last year, but all three Eurovisions I've watched so far have had awkward, horrible hosts. I thought it was a tradition of some sort.

The last years host was actually great. She was funny for once. That's why it's even worse to see this years boring three.

Lyrically it's awful. "It reeks of passive violence"? What the fuck is passive violence? You can't be passively violent.

I wish Europe didn't hate us! :(

Europe doesn't hate Britain (that much). It is just the fact that compared to other songs in the final, yours wasn't that good. I think Ireland had a much better song and it didn't even qualify for the finals. There really weren't all that many bad songs in the finals. And only one that I hated (hint - Poland).

It's interesting that they weren't promoting DVD/Blu-ray for this years contest. Are they even making it? And I can't find the old ones either. That's a bit of a shame. I wanted to buy it.

If I want to see a Polish whore molest a kitchen utensil, I'll take a wooden spoon to an east London side road at 4am and pay the first one I see £4 to do so. I don't need them shouting at me on television.

Also, let's take a moment to appreciate just why Austria doesn't tend to win competitions like this. Anyone remember the yodelling/samba mash up?

We can't take a high ground on that point, we've sent Scooch. We reanimated Englebert Humperdink. We kept Bonnie Tyler sober enough to stand and shout for three minutes. We are not without sin.

I would like to see the UK enter a morris-dance themed song eventually. Play the slavs at their own game and do the folksy stuff.

Wait, what? Where are you hearing these rumours? I know of no precedent for such a circumstance as the Olympics suddenly being held in a previous city because the current city can't handle them.

I've just added the songs from this years competition to my music library. This was the most fruitful Eurovision so far. I've got 23 songs (+2 bonus).

These include: Armenia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, UK, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Iceland, Macedonia, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Slovenia and Ukraine.

One thing that amused me was our commentator in regards to the Poland:
And now it's time for Poland where girls are going to show... are going to show... I am not telling you what
And now it's time for some adult entertainment
Oh look, here are some Polish tools (boobs)

All across the news, The Telegraph, The Standard, The Sun. Apparently, at a comparable point, Athens had 40% of the work complete. We had 60%. Rio, at an optimistic estimate, has 10% and people keep dying in it's construction. Allegedly, the government has been informally approached by the IOC to establish how many 2012 venues can be made ready to host it again and whether we can put the infrastructure back in place. Apparently our only real hurdle is where to put the athletes, seeing as the villiage is now sold to private owners.

I don't. I thought it was a fun song. But I was disappointed by the live performance. The video's better.
You can have everything you want. The tricky part is still wanting it after you get it.

Why does it have to be a wooden spoon, Marm?
