Finally!
I wanted to make this topic, but I wasn’t sure if anyone else was interested.

Who do you think will win? The Netherlands seem to be the favourite this year, and while the song is great I really hope that this wins instead:

I would be to.
Just skip the thing and watch Eurovision.

Last year I went home early from a wedding because of Eurovision. Granted it was a stupid wedding, but still.

I did not expect that at all.

Let me know what wins. :)

Missed the first semi-finals live but just watched the recording. Here's my scorecard:

I really liked Estonia and Hungary.

Is there some rule that says straight people are not allowed to present this show? Or do they just not want to?

I am leaning towards they don’t want to  . I mean this is probably the gayest event of the year.

I really liked Estonia and Hungary.

Good lord. You must really like spreadsheets.

But Estonia was nice. Hungary was ok as well. And I really loved the Czech twinks - nice fun song with eyecandy on top. The Belgian one was cute as well, but really didn’t sound that good - although the song was nice. But my favourite is still Iceland.

I do!

I quite liked the Czech song, but the vocals were really bad.

Really? I didn’t notice that. Or at least they were excellent compared to Belgium.

As for yesterday... surprisingly the one that I liked the most was Sweden. And I didn’t particularly like the song when I first heard it online. But the whole package yesterday was surprisingly good.

After that I think Switzerland, Norway, Russia, The netherlands, Azerbaijan, Lithuania. The rest not so much.

I was kind of disappointed by the Netherlands. It’s a really good song in general, but overall performance didn’t really blow me away. I won’t mind if it wins, but certainly isn’t my favourite from the show.

His vocals came across as super amateurish to my ears. I personally know like 5 singers in Prague who are in another league entirely and they only play bars.

I was also pretty unimpressed compared to expectations. I was led to believe it was the front runner and would be the best of the night.

Well that was something.
Of course The Netherlands winning wasn't a surprise. And I actually liked the performance much more this time. This now finally breaks the three year streak of me not liking the winners.

I am a bit sad that Iceland didn't do better, but I guess it was kind of expected. That song is just way too polarising to do well in a competition like this.

Two things quite surprised me today - The Czech boys getting so little public votes and the same for Sweeden. I was expecting them to be much higher - because in my opinion he deserved that trophy more.

We also came really high with the 13th place - which is our highest place since they started using the new voting rules.

Overall I think this year was really packed with awesome entries and I wouldn't really mind if anyone on the left side of the scoreboard won (except Macedonia - but even that one wasn't bad... oh and Denmark... I missed that one).

Late to this but some thoughts

Azerbaijan and (Holy fuck) Russia had the hottest guys. Honourable mentions go to the cute gay Israeli presenter, who gets a "face of the year" award. I want to know who his doctor is, because there's no way he naturally looks that good at 40, that's some exquisite filler work.

Australia was one of the most memorable. I barely noticed The Netherlands and don't remember it.

Madonna needs to retire.

I'm totally unsurprised and apathetic about the fact that we (The UK) came last. A generic overly earnest song, with trite uninspired lyrics and a beat I've heard a million times before, sung buy a totally average-looking guy with way less stage presence than many other performers... uh yeah, we're gonna come last.

It had nothing the fuck to do with Brexit and "Europe hating us!", we're just not competitive. We simply don't play to win like other countries do. If we wanna do better, we need a more memorable and quirky sound and stage production, not take it so damn seriously (although take it more seriously than that cringeworthy "flying our flag" song from 2007). Also our perfomer needs to be undeniably one of the most attractive and energetic up there, yeah I said it. Next to Mr Russia and Israeli speedo model presenter our guy just wasn't making the cut, I'm sorry.

Average looking? That's a poor reflection of the country if you think doughboy was average looking.

You know who was legit my favourite? San Marino. He had the back story, a dentist who wrote his entry in 5 minutes - allegedly - and just went on stage and had a good time. I thought he definitely deserved to do better. He was Eurovision as fuck.

But yeah, we were always gonna come last. Especially now, with Brexit. I did particularly like how an error in vote counting also got us - and us alone - a 5 point deduction after the contest. Just to really rub that last in.

I was trying to be polite but that backfired :p ... I agree tho.

It actually irks me. We're a country who are commonly stereotyped as being a load of ugly interbred-looking fuckers, I wish we'd do more to actually combat that stereotype. Especially British men in particular ngl, we need better media promotion than One Direction (who are all average-looking apart from Zayn, who is mixed, and maybe Liam), Ed Sheeran, and this doughy cartoon character-looking dude who simultaneously looks 6 and 60. We can't ride the coat tails of David Beckham's sex appeal forever, he's just one dude.

Again I don't think it had much (if anything) to do with Brexit but omg the "revision" in the vote made me cackle as well. It was like a perfect slick response to our singer complaining about coming last.
