Maybe I'm currently bitter because the person I considered among the best and most inherently worthwhile and interesting characters was Littlefinger and look how that turned out.

When this show started out I honestly thought that his main motivation behind everything was the 'break the wheel' angle that they've now decided Daenerys is all about (despite being just another spoke on the damn thing herself but being entirely unaware of that fact). But now they've given her the 'break the wheel' stuff and revealed him as just a generic 'I want the throne' dickhead and gotten rid of him.

If we talk bullshittery of characters, that one is my biggest point of complaint. Years of scheming, starting a war, and all he was reduced to was sitting in Winterfell trying to make two sisters squabble and getting offed by the efforts of among my least favourite characters. Ugh.

Littlefinger has never been about breaking the wheel, it's been "chaos is a ladder" which signifies his stepping on and over people while they experience war and misfortune. He set the Stark vs Lannister war in motion so that he could cause enough chaos to be useful to the Lannisters so they'd put him into a seat of power, that's how he became Lord of Harrenhal and then The Vale. As Varys put it "He would see this country burn if he could be king of the ashes". He's been more dangerous than any individual Lannister because he started the current wars that killed off nearly ever main character.

He's a well-written villain but it's always been very clear he was a villain who only wanted power. It was a fitting end for him to be killed by the Starks. He caused the death of both of their parents and sold Sansa to Ramsay. Sansa has been getting smarter and smarter each season, serving as the antithesis to Cersei and Littlefinger. She used what he taught her to determine he needed to die. He underestimated Sansa and tried to continue to use her to gain control of Winterfell after she had already decided he was a threat years ago when he killed her aunt and sold her to Ramsay, that was his fatal error.

I don't deny it was narratively fitting but it still annoyed me to have one of my favourite characters killed by some of my least favourite. My interpretation of his motivate was at the beginning of all of this but was obviously proven wrong. My logic at the time was that as someone from a minor no-name house of no importance who has risen by his own wit and guile to being in a position of incredibly power, that he would have been someone to truly see the futility of the constant cycle of privileged entitlement that basically keeps certain houses in power and be perfectly justified in wanting to destroy that entire dynamic. Chaos is a ladder because in chaos any man is free to make their own way and attain their own ambitions, free of the strict hierarchical nonsense of the Game of Thrones.

Like I said, that's what I wanted him to be. Instead of just a standard slimy power-hungry dickhead but just more effective about it.

I got my mom into this show after much nagging. I think it was her Facebook friends who actually convinced her to watch it. This weekend I watched an old episode with her but it was the one where Loras sucks off Renly. I tried not to look at her.

You think thats bad, I espoused the shows great storylines, costumes and the wonderful acting and the drama, mum finally relented to watch but on the condition I watch the first episode with her, incase she had questions. I thought nothing of it and agreed. Then came the Cersei/Jaime sex scene, my mum being abit of prude, just exclamed "But their brother and sister, well I don't think thats very appropriate, pretty disgusting actually..." before looking at me like I'd kicked the dog.

I had to assure her it wasn't all incestuous banging and debauchery before she'd watch the rest. She is now a convert, but I wont forget the look of utter shock on her face and the look as if it was my fault she'd been exposed to such things (which, I kinda guess it was  )

I couldn’t miss the opportunity to film my mom for the red wedding scene so I did. She was trying to cover her face with her hands but couldn’t look away. lmao

The first episode was decent. I'm thinking of reading the books once the TV show is over.

What do you think will happen once Jon tells Daenerys the truth (assuming he does)?

I read the first one and half of the second. I'll give Martin credit for world-building, but I just don't enjoy his writing very much.

He needs more exciting vocabulary, like “cornhole.”

The past season and this first episode of the final season have really felt like the The Force Awakens, one big family reunion drawn out over hours and hours. Not that it's particularly bad, just that it's so predictable that certain characters are going to have these interactions with each other, we know exactly how it's going to happen but they still spend an hour showing us. I realize most people want to see it, but we're running out of time for the series and I don't want it wasted on literally every character in the show half-smiling at literally every other character in the show because everyone is having a reunion with everyone.

This episode was so much better than the last one. A lot of the interactions actually felt real, for the first time in years.
