I was at the goodwill on memorial day. And they had one of the old school RCA turntable cabinets. They had it priced at 49.99. But man I wanted it.

When I was heading out I found out everything was half price in the store. I really considered getting it. But figured I didn't have room and no way of getting it home. So never did get it. But it's still in the back of my mind.

I don't know the year but I know it was old, because all it had was a the record player and a radio.

Was it in a big heavy wooden cabinet? We used to call them HI FIs..
They had tubes in them.. I've got an old Curtis Matthis HI FI.

This Pioneer turntable is 42 years old and it still works great. It has the strobe light. It had outlived many stereo receivers. The tone arm is perfectly balanced. The album is Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Yep, one of the old school furniture types. It had to have been early-mid seventies, era. Considering it didn't have a cassette or 8-track. It was probably 5 feet long.

After thinking about it now I kinda want to go back and look into it a little more. I get nostalgic for old music stuff like that. :P

I never would have guessed the album.

I pray that the phonograph you are looking at has a needle with a set screw and not a cartidge needle. The needle is replaceable. If it is a cartridge needle wears out it is extremely difficult to find a replacement.

It could be even older than the 1970's. If it's not solid state than it is definitely pre 70's. The first solid state stereo I saw was in 1965.
There is a huge difference in the sound of a solid state and the older vacuum tubes. I personally knew guitarists for rock bands who used to pay thousands of dollars for an 50s or early 60s old amp that had tubes. The tubes give it a rather MELLOW sound. Its a sound quailty that millineal young people will probably never ever hear. And the tubed radios pull in a vast amount of stations. They pull in far more stations that a 21st century digital tuner will. The radios I have are from the 1920s and 30's. People back then wanted to receive as many radio stations as possible.
By 1972 nearly all the cabinet stereos had 8 track players in them..

I might have to stop there after work tomorrow. and if it's there take a much closer look at it. I definitely knew it was old due to it just having the turntable and radio. But now I want to know more.

I just hope it's still there. It caught my eye. So probably caught the eyes of other people too. But then again I enjoy a lot of things most people don't care about.

I pray it will still be there for you. And I pray it still works.
This is my mid 1970's stereo. It has an 8 track player.

There is a type of stereo they only made circa 1968 to maybe 1971 that is exceedingly RARE today. That is the ones in the big heavy wooden cabinets that had a lid on the top to access The phonograph and radio and they also had a color television set embedded in the front of the cabinet. They didn't make these very long. I haven't seen one for almost 50 years.

I stopped there after work and it was gone. :( I really wish I would have checked it out more at the time. But I'll soon forget about it. Right now I feel like someone who knew more snatched that right up. But nothing I can do now.
