Anxiety and Slight Anger in a Relationship

Unread postby squiresj0924 » 11 July 2020, 00:44

Guys, I need some help. I'm not even sure how to start this thread, really. My relationship with my boyfriend is generally great. Sometimes unexpected things happen like this evening when I was driving. I thought that I wouldn't get to see him this weekend. Yesterday, he told me about a class that he needs to take for work that could take a lot of his time and I thought I wouldn't get to talk to him much for the forseeable future. When things like this happen, I lose my shit before I really think about it. Anything y'all have to say that can help me calm myself would be great and highly appreciated. I can see that this man is amazing and I don't want to lose him. I want to build a future with him!

Losing your shit sounds like maybe more than "slight anger"?

Outbursts of rage with only mild provocation are characteristic of various mental health problems. That doesn't mean they're inevitable or that you have no control over them, though. Talking about the issue may help you figure out how you can get yourself to respond more appropriately, and you may benefit especially from seeing a psychologist or psychotherapist, particularly if the problem really isn't very severe. If it is severe, though, it might take medication to see a big improvement, which would probably involve seeing a psychiatrist.

(In my experience, the medication aripiprazole (also known by the brand name Abilify) is invaluable in cases like you've described, though effective dosages vary widely, between roughly 0.5 and 15 mg/day, typically about 5-10. It needs to be introduced slowly and gradually to avoid side effects and find the lowest effective dose. Starting dose should not exceed 2 mg/day except in emergencies. Technically this is considered an antipsychotic, but it has different uses, and for an antipsychotic it is an unusually safe medication when used carefully. Other antipsychotics are no substitute.)

You certainly sound like you need professional help unpicking whatever it is that’s messing your stable moods up.

I’m pretty sure you have anxiety, codependency, and abandonment issues. I think a great first step would be to speak to a counselor or psychiatrist.
