Dating Life in the Middle East? No, thanks

Unread postby isito » 19 February 2021, 23:12

I am living in a somewhat Middle Eastern country where being a gay man is not illegal (yet) but perceived as non-existent, more as an invention of "the West" recently.
Being a gay here has never been easy but I guess that it is going get worse and in the times of pandemic, I just feel like dating in such a country is almost impossible and having a relationship is even harder. Do you people have any experience in a middle eastern country? Just curious about the thoughts and I'd like to share mines as this feeling of being stuck is too unbearable sometimes.

No I have no experience on dating in gay relationship in the middle east. Have you thought about moving out the country? Seems dangerous for men to date men.

I tried actually but the places I can move to are quite limited, usually even worse. I'm trying to make plans to move back to Europe (I lived and studied there before for a short time) but it is usually bureaucracy and politics, visa and things like that are the problems so I can't just take my bag and leave :/

I get that. sometimes you gotta do what makes you happy. I know you can't just up and leave. Where being gay is illegal... It's a great concern for your safety.

I feel the same. I am gay and have ADHD. These are tough times. I hope this pandemic goes away so I can meet men.

We (me and my husband) have the same problem as you. We live in a homophobic country (I think Russia is much worse than Turkey, maybe I am wrong). We tried to move to another countries, but this is very difficult. Legal pathways to immigrate are harsh, as other countries demand a bunch of documents and a lot of money (for example, Canada with their Express Entry program, a selection system based on points).
