My granddaughter's wedding

Unread postby LouisFl » 1 March 2020, 22:47

I am a man of the 60's and have been openly gay most of my adult life. However, I did marry a woman in the 70's due to society and professional pressures. As a result we had two children and now three grandchildren. About three years ago my oldest granddaughter announced she was dating her girlfriend while they were still in high school. In the summer of 2018 they got engaged and that Thanksgiving they asked me to officiate their wedding. (I am a notary public and have performed many weddings for years.) I was honored and teared up when they asked. The wedding will be this Friday, March 6th. We all are super excited and can't wait for the special occasion. It's going to be a garden wedding at a country club with catered food, DJ, and open bar. I wrote the words for this ceremony as it will be my first same-gender wedding. As I said, I am so super excited.

We have come a long way since my youth but we are still not totally there yet. However, I am truly grateful I have been around long enough to witness the progress our community has made.

We’ve progressed quite a lot since the 60s when it comes to lgbt and it’s good seeing the times progressed with it. He’ll it’s progress since I’ve been in high school over 10-14 years ago from when my sister was in high school last year. Gives me hope but there’s a lot of issues still needed to be address from both sides of the spectrum.

That is so beautiful! I love stories like this! But yeah, we’ve come a long way but we still got ways to go.

Congrats to the two young ladies, too!

Right, we have come really far in the past decades, as it comes to LGBTI-rights and the personal choice we can make.
So I had to cryof emotion when they installed the law of same sex marriage over here. I thought they'll never do so, as there was a lot of resistance in the main governing parties and all those politicians would have the most ridiculous arguments against same sex marriages. Some said, iof that was allowed, people as well would demand to marry their dog, their garden gnome or their church tower! That was the rightwing AfD party, for example.

Well, I already was amazed when I saw two guys kiss one another in Toronto back in the nineties and I thought, a country, where this is possible, must be truly free.

Have a fantastic celebration! Best wishes!

The wedding took place this past Friday. It was a beautiful and special event and one I will always remember. Thought I'd share a picture of the happy couple. My granddaughter is the tall one.
