Ted Cruz

Unread postby Biboy94 » 27 February 2016, 20:14

Presidential candidate Ted Cruz opposes same sex marriage and civil unions. I am afraid if he gets elected, he will ban same sex marriage in the United States. I am hoping he doesn't win the election. What do you guys think of this?

I think you need to revisit high school civics and understand the separation of powers.

That being said a Republican president could swing the Supreme Court by nominating conservative judges. But I doubt even they would reverse the decision.

I wouldn't have any of them, to be honest. But I don't really think there is anything to worry about.

The President has absolutely no authority to overrule the Supreme Court's decisions. That is elementary school level governance.

Don't worry, Ted Cruz is pretty toast at this point. He got cocky and wound up burning bridges with Donald Trump who promptly wiped the floor with him. Not a good thing to do for a man who nobody in Washington likes and has all the appeal of a used car salesman or street preacher. Even if he had a shot at the presidency he would spend his four years war mongering and pandering to his financial backers and would try to sweep the gay marriage thing under the rug.

I really think it would be hilarious if a GOP candidate won and managed to overrule the Supreme Court and re-ban gay marriage. It would just be such a perfect portrait of America. As far as I'm aware, that's not actually possible, but whatever. A man can dream for a more entertaining world.

Also, Ted Cruz isn't going to be President, don't worry. It'll be down to the Chaos Candidate himself, or Hillary Clinton and her focus groups, and her southern accent (but only when she's visiting the South, of course).

He's objectively the most horrific of the Republican candidates but he's not actually going to be President for a whole number of reasons (no Republicans he's ever worked with like him in the slightest, his appeal is only to a minor portion of voters, he might be the Zodiac Killer, he's creepy as fuck, Donald Trump is kicking his arse for the Republican nomination, etc) so anything he says he wants to do as President holds about as much weight as me making campaign promises for when I'm elected Eternal God-Emperor of the Cosmos.

I don't think you need to worry about him banning same-sex marriage, and not least because he won't be elected. I'm not from America but I do follow their politics quite closely because our own is so dull. From what I understand the President can't override Supreme Court rulings. The Supreme Court didn't just decide that it was now legal, they found that it was constitutionally legal. So for a politician to now override that they would have to abolish the entire constitution (which has been attempted. See "Patriot Act"). Correct me if I'm off base but I think that's accurate

Thankfully the Zodiac killer has been mathematically eliminated from getting the amount of delegates to win.

I hate the man. He bastardizes conservative values and represents everything I despise in the Republican Party. Trump on the other hand...

Did he ever end up having to deny being the Zodiac Killer in front of a camera? A prominent presidential hopeful having to deny being a serial killer who was first active at least two years before he was born would've just been the perfect representation of American politics, and it'd be a shame if a soundbite of that doesn't exist.

EDIT: His wife pretty much did.

About an hour ago, Ted Cruz had a meltdown, as is typical of his sort, about how he didn't get his way. As of now, he's ragequit, just like my nation's previous leader (who quit his party before the tally of votes was finished).

Glenn Beck is presently on suicide watch.

And this one goes out to a lonely little man sitting on a stage crying tonight wondering how it all went wrong and if that knock on the door is his wife or the asylum guards have finally found his location.

Zodiac Case closed. Now to get David Fincher to film the sequel.

Going back to the first post: How do so many people not understand separation of powers? It's a basic element of any modern democracy. We've had a similar issue in Germany recently, where a large amount of people didn't understand that Merkel can't just step into the judical process and stop the prosecution of somebody under established laws.
