Lets hope so!

But headlines in the news like the one today, "Donald Trump suggested firing nuclear weapons into hurricanes to prevent them hitting the US" gives him publicity. Remember, that everybody thought he was a joke back in 2016, so lets not underestimate him (once) again.

Derek wrote:I don't understand how anyone can be so ahistorical. Not even historical - this all happened in the past few years! Did you not notice the resurgence of right-wing ideology, which sprang up from... basically nothing? Do you really think it's the stroke of the "pendulum" bouncing back from the side of liberal extremists who bailed out Wall Street and begged insurance companies to let them pass legislation? What an utterly blinkered perspective. These assholes have been here the whole time. Politics is opportunism, and in this case the opportunity was a complete lack of ideological opposition. How the hell do you complain about "bankers, ceo's, and politicians" and condemn the impetus to seek an alternative in the same breath?bluesunstorm wrote:Do all the millions more who voted for Clinton in the primary and probably will choose Biden just not matter? And, let's not pretend that the centrism has been unpopular on a national scale.
Centrism is extremely unpopular, and more than that, it has no mandate and no viable long-term political strategy. Those millions more who voted for Clinton in the primary absolutely do not matter.
If centrism is so unpopular, then why have most recent presidents and nominees been overall centrist? Why don't the people's votes matter? Someone like Bernie Sanders has been an alternative twice now, and the majority of voters still aren't picking him. Maybe most just don't want to the policy proposals.

If centrism was popular, then how did Trump defeat Hillary? The reason the democrats push centrists candidates is because their influence and wealth lies squarely within the beltway milieu that has no genuine interest in changing anything, and electoral politics is largely a function of influence and wealth. You'll note that Bernie has consistently ranked as the most popular candidate for four years. If he wins the nomination, it will be without the backing of a party that has been openly hostile towards him, despite their failures and unpopularity.

Why do you think you thought immigration was at its highest ever when it turns out the opposite is true?

That is a pretty boomer mindset.
Also Erick is a boomer. You can tell from the enormous sense of entitlement he has regarding twink private parts.

I made a mistake, okay? I still don't think illegal immigration is a positive thing regardless and am against it, but obviously everyone else disagrees here, so I'll just leave it at agree to disagree.

I'm not sure about Erick and Brenden, but I wasn't trying to hassle you when I asked that question. I actually think it's important to know. The perception is shared by many people who believe that illegal immigration is at crisis levels, which is why we shouldn't vote democrat. However, the perception is almost entirely a function of Trump's rhetoric, and like all of Trump's rhetoric, it's a blatant, cynical, destructive lie, so opposite from the truth that it begs an explanation for why anyone would receive it. I can only guess that it stems from xenophobia, or possibly a more directed prejudice.

I disagree and think illegal immigration is at a crisis level. But here is why. First and foremost is who and how we classify illegal. Well if you have lots of money in the bank, a good education, etc, you can get in. If you have some special circumstance you get in. If you come here, work for years in the agriculture areas of this country, support your family, not have any criminal activity, etc. and still you get to be "illegal" being get treated as less than human. I'd call that a crisis.
Yes, that needs balanced with how many people is reasonable to let become permanent residency. The reality is that we have set up a "class system" where the affluent (or wealthy) get a hall pass so to speak while the less affluent (less educated and lower economic) have no chance. That needs corrected first.

Okay. First we fix the way power works and has always worked throughout human history. Then we help the brown people.

Yes, and both parties will work in harmony to achieve it too.
Maybe as the people from around my generation (and prior), who really represent the majority of leadership in this country, die off and are replace by an more progressive generation, things might actually change. Times have changed and I think it is possible. Just that this two party system seems to stymie every decent initiative until things are at the brink of disaster. So what, maybe another 30ish years for real change? Hum, climate change should hurry that one alone is my guess...
