Belo Horizonte summer rains

Unread postby Eryx » 29 January 2020, 03:03

After Australia and California, it's our turn to get utterly fucked by Climate Change! I have a weird attraction towards apocalyptic videos, and I think some of you do too, so here's what my city's looking like lately.

You know, we can probably spare Australia, but losing Brazil will really fuck us.

Or not fuck you, rather. Taken literally I mean.

Seen it on the news last night and recalled that is your town. Hopefully you remain safe.

That’s really fucked up. For some reason though I couldn’t stop laughing at the second video from the top. The rest are absolutely horrible though.

I'm surprised with all those people sitting calmly while they're knees-deep in sewer water. I'd be over the balcony in a second lol

Or maybe the water came near the second half of the video? I’m still confused over why they’re staring outside if indeed the water is right below them.

I keep wondering if there comes a point at which climate deniers see that this is not normal. :runaway:

Our major TV channel called up some famous Brazilian environmentalists to comment on this, and across the board their conclusion is that this is directly due to Climate Change and that we need to brace ourselves for recurring similar situations everywhere in the country. It's our new normal. We'll need to get sturdier infrastructure to be able to handle this every summer, and I can only hope our next elected officials aren't greedy enough to exchange personal gain in the name of actual human lives. From what I've seen so far during my life, however, they don't really care all that much.

Conceding the point would be to admit they were wrong, which would admit defeat! That would show weakness to their enemies!

If and when their beach houses are destroyed by rising water levels. Mumbai could be 20 feet under water and they'd say there's no accounting for weather.

Well, whenever I talk with either sets of my grandparents, who are all climate-change skeptics to varying degrees (heh), about the weather, they outright admit that shit is strange. They can tell there's less snow overall in the wintertimes compared to when they were younger. They know the crazy temperature fluctuations day to day and week to week are not normal. They see their flowers budding earlier and earlier. But they're still skeptical that the worldwide climate is changing and certainly skeptical as to the anthropogenic aetiology of it.

^ that was my thought this morning except - our politicians' beach homes are up and down our coasts. They make sure anything that hits their beach homes will be declared a federal disaster so they can rebuild and repeat.
