How Trump won Ohio in the 2016 Primaries... Pray not again

Unread postby Koftruecross » 29 May 2019, 13:27

In the 2016 Ohio Presidential Primary there were a vast number of registered democrat voters who realized that Hillary Clinton was a weak candidate. Consequently they went to the primary polls and asked for a Republican ballot because they figured that Trump was the weakest GOP candidate that Clinton had the best chance of beating. We have to remember that back in 2016 there were plenty of GOP CONSERVATIVES who thought Trump was a weak candidate. Fox News was NOT initially kind to Trump.
At any rate Democratic voters in Ohio took a calculated risk and became registered republicans so they could put Trump on the fall ballot because they thought that Clinton could never defeat Cruz, Rubio etc. ..But they thought Clinton could beat Trump.. They gambled and they lost. I personally know many democrats that did this. The Ohio primary system is such that anyone can vote for a Republican in the primary and then vote for a Democrat in the November presidential election.
It is worth noting here that Mitt Romney came to Ohio and actively campaigned AGAINST Trump in the primary. Romney campaigned for John Kasich. Romney did everything in his power to try and prevent Trump from winning the Ohio primary. THEN Romney went to Wisconsin and campaigned for Scott Walker to try and prevent Trump from winning their primary.
In the end all of Romney's primary schemes to keep Trump from getting on the November presidential ballot came to nothing. Because Trump won both Ohio and Wisconsin primaries.
And I don't know how the primary laws are in other states. But in Ohio now there are a vast number of democrat voters who are listed as registered republicans. Let us pray that this will give the REAL REPUBLICANS in Ohio grief in their attempts to discern who is who.

The correct year is 2016 not 2012

I voted for Bernie sanders in the democratic primary. I however didn't vote in the election because I fell asleep and slept the day away because of my medication and didn't get a chance to vote for Clinton. It was a bummer when I woke up and heard Trump won the election and regretted not getting to vote. With that being said, Trump has a pretty big following in Ohio... at with those that I know. This time around I will make sure I vote because honestly I don't think I can handle another term with Trump in office.

Okay now that Brendan has kindly pointed out to me that I can edit my posts. Here is another facet of this story.
Mitt Romney came to Ohio and joined forces with the young republicans that were campaigning for John Kasich in the primaries, He LIED TO THEM and told them that he whole heartedly supported Kasich. And THEN he went to Wisconsin and campaigned for Scott Walker AGAINST Kasich whom he had originally supported. This thoroughly pissed off the young republicans in Ohio. Unfortunately probably not enough to cause them to defect to the Democratic party. They rightly feel like Romney stabbed them in the back. .. Romney's aides decided that switching sides gave them the best chance of keeping Trump off of the fall Presidential ballot.
At any rate Mitt Romney's name is MUD among the Ohio GOP. His own republican party In Ohio HATES HIS GUTS. It's because of his two faced back stabbing ways. This is a story that the entire Republican party has swept under the rug because Romney is an embarrassment to them.

The primary elections in the U.S. are the most confusing. There are no uniform rules. So the rule may vary from state to state. In order to shed light on what I have written above. This is how it works in Ohio:
The presidential primary happens in the Spring. Around May.
You go to the polling site and the election worker asks..... which ballot do you want? You have a choice of Republican or Democrat. You cannot have both. So let's say you take the Republican ballot. There are no democrats on this ballot. Only Republican contenders trying to get on the fall Presidential ballot. You can be a life long Democratic voter and still ask for a Republican ballot.
Here's where things get muddy. Once you cast your Republican ballot you will be automatically become a registered Republican. The thing is .......come the November presidential election there is absolutely NO LAW that says that you must vote for the same Republican that you previously voted for in the primary. You are allowed to switch your vote over to ANY candidate running for president regardless of their party affiliation. That is what a vast number of Ohio democratic voters did. And that's what Romney was trying to prevent from happening.
Looking back on it now both Romney and the FAUX Republican democrats were correct in their view that Trump could never gain as many votes as Clinton. Trump LOST the popular vote. Clinton did get more votes than him. It was the Electoral College that handed Trump the victory. Now The dilemma for the Ohio republicans is that they cannot use the data from the primaries in order to determine EXACTLY how many registered republicans there are in Ohio. Because not all are true republicans.

Just briefly read the first few post. But this definitely is true. And happened on quite a large scale.

Just want to add though. That even days before the election most none Republicans ( and some republicans :P)still fully believed Trump could never win. Which led to a lot of people just not voting.

Well one thing is sure. The next primary election next year will be different than the one in 2016. I know these posts were long. But unfortunately the subject of politics warrants the use of a lot of words.
AFTER Trump got elected FOX NEWS and the GOP did a complete about face. NOW they can't say enough good things about him.
