I agree Trump will probably stay in office as long as he can, defying impeachment, ignoring the honorable choice of resignation, and most likely contesting the result of the 2020 election.

It would be poetic justice if he is someday struck by lightning on one of his golf courses, but I won't hold my breath for that. He may have his sack-of-lard of a body preserved for 130 years, but his diet and lack of exercise will catch up to him. It would be interesting to preserve his brain for science, but I doubt they would be able to find it.

So it's always said about how smart Trump is and that he carefully skirts going over a line that he can be held accountable for or at least not doing anything he can actually be caught at. The impeachment proceedings however seem to contradict that now. Having such conversations via cell phone not understanding others are listening in and thinking somehow, someway it was not going to leak (or whistle blower in this case) and come to the surface; how dumb is that? His tweet the other day which was exactly what it was call out for as "witness intimidation" clearly carried out on an US Citizen. He keeps digging his hole deeper. So yeah, I agree that he has to have a little brain.

OMG, am I hearing this correct. Sondland: I was doing my job. I informed others what was going on. Trump was using Rudy to extort Ukraine for his personal advantage. I was just trying to deal with the bad situation...

Did I get that right? I mean he really just said that. Going back to listening...

Who actually says that? Even Lindsey Graham's defense of the president pretty much amounts to Trump's being too stupid to have properly bribed the Ukrainians.

Sometimes I hope for assassination as the best way to ensure he doesn't do further damage to our political institutions (especially since he certainly will challenge the legitimacy of the 2020 election should he lose). But then I think his assassination would only further exacerbate the rightwing extremism of which his presidency is a symptom and in which the crumbling of our institutions is ultimately rooted.

That's when I give up on thinking about all the different ways the future could be bad and go back to sifting through all the different ways the past definitely was.

You know, I read the Inferno when I was about 10, and it really messed with me. By that time I was calling myself an atheist and I figured that would make my greatest sin heresy, which, if I remember correctly, means I would be sealed in an iron casket heated red-hot for eternity. I had nightmares.

Re assassination: Correct, unfortunately it would only serve to substantiate the extreme left group. I simply hope for karma to befall him after he is removed from office.

Re the who: Basically two camps. The trump supporters obviously. The other camp I see with that attitude is the group that dislikes him but think he is intelligent enough to successfully avoid being caught. However, that turned out to be folly.

Oh, jeeze is Nunes ever a tool. LoL. I hope the only audience he is appealing to is the "Forever Trumpers" and I still hold out hope that is a small minority (likely delusional on my part).

Trump's assassination wouldn't go well for any of us. Can you imagine the conspiracy theories? Besides, it is better than he deserves. I want him to live to see the reaction to his presidency once he is out of office, and the value of his real estate plummet worldwide. Hopefully the Republican Party will wake up from its self-imposed coma and confess what a horror it was for them to support him. Trump won't believe any of it, of course, but it just may give him nightmares.

The reaction to his presidency now is bad enough. He will never have to expose himself to a damaging opinion. This country is filled with soulless grifters who have made an entire media industry out of propagandizing, legitimizing, and rehabilitating rich assholes.

and the value of his real estate plummet worldwide.

He's declared bankruptcy multiple times. He was immune to consequences even before he became the most powerful person in the world.

Hopefully the Republican Party will wake up from its self-imposed coma and confess what a horror it was for them to support him.

That will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever happen.

but it just may give him nightmares.

Ditto.

And I also agree that assassination is too good for him - my point being that there is no schadenfreude to be had here. The only thing we can do is capitalize on the outrage and disillusionment he's inspired.

Yeah, pretty much this. I don't understand where this idea that Republicans are going to wake up and decide that Trump was the bad man all along. Trump is the apotheosis of the Republican party. They like him because he makes the people they don't like sad and mad. And that's it. There's no broader political narrative at work with Republicans. They're not going to say "Oh, we were so fooled by his charisma!" This is the main problem with the Democrats' messaging. It relies on this idea that if you gently point out that some of the things Trump says are racist, his supporters will be horrified and turn away. And that's just not the case.

Republicans are disgusting shit humans. Anything that's done to hurt them is justified because they're abysmal people. His supporters like that he's racist and sexist. Because they are too.

I don't know if this applies to the average Republican / Trump supporter, but it definitely doesn't apply to all of them. I have first-hand experience of some that are actually really lovely, loving people who have just been terribly misled.

If you're misled into supporting a really racist person, you're just a really racist person. I'm not sure how this makes you a lovely person who was misled.

The story of Trump isn't of a very charismatic leader who hid his intentions. It's the story of a guy who was really straightforward about tapping into racial resentment.

Just a friendly reminder, but the dumb fuck tried to push a law recently that would legalize the firing of anyone for their sexuality that is non-heteronormative, and another as well trying deny the LGBTQ healthcare -- for "religious freedom". So, the odds of the Republican party (basically full of insane Evangelical Christians) to finally come upon an epiphany and realize Trump was/is a "bad guy", doesn't really seem likely at all.

These same evangelical Christians have been leaving this country and spewing this political propaganda overseas (seeing how their plots failed in the US) to those whom are more vulnerable and suspectible (sad people; idiots; and just bad people) to believe such tom foolery.

As (what I believe) a reasonable soul, and believing in science, I feel that the moment that religion is now being taught in the school system, allowed as to defend actions and requests to change rules and laws in the court system; we're going to live in something of dictatorship - duh.

Like The Simpson's said; "religion should stay 500 ft away from science." Lol

This narrow-minded attitude is exactly the problem that Trump represents. Branding a whole group of people as "shit humans" is what he models, and you seem to have taken his lesson to heart. Granted, being Republican is a choice, but there are many reasons someone might make that choice other than supporting Trump.

What I find hard to understand is why intelligent Republicans (there are many) don't contact their congress members and tell them to end their defense of the president now. Failing that, Republican lawmakers are doing their job — representing the will of their constituents. Unfortunately, we all tend to reinforce our biases by only following news sources that bolster our limited world views; stroking our sense of self-righteousness.

...but the majority of the time (not all the time - but about 3/4th), the Republican party has been the major opponent against basic and or civil human rights throughout history.

I mean, they got rid of the fuckin clean air and water act, claiming that the scientific evidence wasn't conclusive. Like, pardon my French, but da fuq?
