"Without Grindr it would feel like you're totally alone."

My last haircut was done by a gay dude, and our time together felt like more of a therapy session. He's from my town (as am I), but he has travelled and lived elsewhere.

We were talking about my town, and about how the gay scene is so small here. The pool to date and hook up with is very limited. He said he dates in the town about two hours away from mine - that's where all of the big clubs are and a much more active gay scene.

He said something that really struck me. That in my town, without Grindr, you'd feel completely alone. This hit me like a bullet and I've been pondering it since.

Since I've tried to put myself out there a bit, I have found the dating pool here to be mostly unappealing. The guys I've met who were my age and who I liked were in relationships already and merely being open to new sex partners. It's really hard to make a connection.

I download Grindr when I get lonely enough. Because without it I feel like an asexual blob. And I'll send a thirsty pic sometimes, because having someone hot tell me I'm hot feels so damn good.

Does Grindr ever help you feel not so alone?

I'm trying to make it 4 more years, and then I'm getting my ass to a new state.

I should say I'm super stoned. I hope this doesn't read as just a rant tomorrow when I'm sober.

Small towns really do suck when it comes to potential partners. I was never able to get into a relationship when I lived in a college town, not only because there are few people but also because everyone just wanted to hook up. If it's something that's affecting you, maybe you should start making plans to go to a bigger place!

Hm... Kinda. Sometimes I do feel like that too. I grow up mostly in countryside but now living in metro area.

Whenever I go back to my hometown and switching on Grindr; I realise that the only profiles I'll see are mine and that other visitor. My hometown-district population is only 20 thousands people. The nearest bigger town also doesn't have places like gay club. So yeah, it's kinda a sad place for hookup. :facepalm2:

But now I move out of my home state to a bigger city. Bigger city means bigger population, and thus lgbt population is much bigger. Hooking up through Grindr in the metro area is much easier. Yet, getting a relationship through Grindr is rare.

All of my closest friends are straight, so I've never had an LGBT friend. And... whenever I question like, Am I the only LGBT person in this place? I switch on Grindr. :3
