How Did GTF Die?

It’s quarantine season, folks. I ran out of shit to do a while ago. I’m sick of crocheting potholders between my toes. So I checked GTF on a whim, and found that every board has been locked, with the most recent post in any given board being.....2018?

Dang, the years have flown by. I’m married, going back to school soon, and my best (and only) friend is a Doberman Pinscher named Apollo. I hope you’ve all been well, and I trust that I still know many of you from both this forum and our awkward little forum sibling. I’m just bored and wondering what the timeline of GTF’s demise was like.

If this is the wrong place for this, sorry in advance. And as always, but especially now: stay safe, stay sane, stay home. I love you.

Welcome back slut. I’m not exactly sure how it ended but I think activity just suddenly stopped late 2018 and René locked and archived it. I was looking at a past thread from LP a few days ago as a matter of fact. He was defending Britney and Bieber. I’m sure others here can tell you much more detail. I wasn’t exactly paying attention.

I should reply to clarify that I’ve gotten my answer independently from this thread, and given the context, I’d prefer to not dwell on the initial question I asked. Sorry for the pointless thread!

Also, hello Pooler. Bienvenue

I'm pretty sure it was already pretty dead when René locked it up. I blame Facebook and other social networks for the lower traffic. Teenagers simply weren't interested in the old format of forums anymore. I think they might make a comeback at some point, though. Having forums talking about different topics without the overseeing of someone the likes of Mark Zuckerberg seems like more of a healthy internet than what we have right now.

Murdered by Carole Baskin. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

This, pretty much.

It was with great sadness that we had to close GTF for new registrations and lock it for new posts in late 2018. A really sad decision, but we did done everything we could think of and it didn't seem like there was any chance of it making a comeback... :(

The only people still posting in the end were spammers, and there were many of them and it took a lot of effort to keep up with deleting their posts and banning them. Since no real posts had been made in more than 2 weeks, Brenden and I decided that the best thing to do would be to lock all the subforums and just maintain the site as an archive for anyone feeling nostalgic or anyone who happens upon advice given on it through search engines.

It's a real shame, because to this day I still receive messages from teenagers who want to register and post in a community like that and wish it was still open and active.

We have however opened this forum up to 16- and 17-year-olds since then.

Jokes aside, that’s a shame, but I would’ve done the same. Thanks again for all the work y’all put into GTF and GFO over the years! ❤️

I’m afraid that won’t be enough. You have to appeal to their narcissistic vices. What do teens love more than anything in the world? Themselves! We need to figure out a way to make it easy for them to tap into their inner attention whore. Maybe some kind of subscriber feature so popular members can be followed more easily or a gimmicky tik-toky thing so people like Simon can come back to do 6-second upside-down naked twerk clips to Primadonna Girl. I dunno; I’m just spitballing here. quinn, you used to be an attention-seeking teen. Got any ideas?

For you? Yes, several in fact. But I’d strongly prefer not to become an accomplice to the debauchery you crave.

Haha, just kidding. I’ve never had an idea

Wow. I remember stumbling upon GTF back in high school (2009?) and I spent like half my life posting. Crazy it's not active anymore. Thanks for everything, GTF.
