For all the newbies so they don't have to ask the question themselves.

Hmm, I wonder what would be the correct answer for me. I was in denial but was aware of being turned on my guys at the age of about 14 but denied to myself that I was gay. Then I sort of acknowledged to myself that I was gay around 18 and only in hindsight did I realize that my prior attractions were gay ones. So what does this mean in relation to this thread’s question? Can I say I realized at 14 or 18?

I realized I was gay at 12, but had my first kiss with a boy when I was 9. Started coming out to my first friends at 15, was basically out at 16 and confirmed it to everyone at 19 when I introduced my first boyfriend to my extended family.

So that's the complete answer to this question. I hope I don't have to say it again hahahaha

I knew from age 7 or 8, knew what it meant around age 11, had my first boyfriend at age 14 LDR( he was 2 years older), only saw him every december and every summer for two months, at age 17 the day I arrived in morocco, he came to my house and I was so happy to see him and kissed him on the lips and he took a step back and I knew what time it was, he broke up with me saying that we are now old enough to know what we did is taboo as muslims we should know better.. I froze in fear when he used religion to break up with me.. I simply nodded and told him that I agree. Summer just started and I had to hang out with him and his friends as if nothing ever happened, it was the most horrible feeling I ever experienced till this day.

I went back to Belgium and stayed there for two years, at age 19 I decided to go to morocco again and tell him how I feel! I couldn’t bare it anymore and fck concequences! When I arrived there my neighbour visited me and I asked him if he saw my friend today? And he tells me “haven’t you heard?” At that moment my heart sanked to my stomach, he tells me “he got married last year with a swedish girl and moved to sweden”

Another summer just started and all I could do was visit the places he took me to, we had a nice private hideout somewhere at the beach between giant rocks, I spend most of my days there crying, hoping/imagining him to show up there..

That summer my personality completly changed, I repressed my sexuality, became stubborn, closed off my heart and let nobody near it, not even my own mother, I became cold hearted towards everyone.

If only I could’ve talked about it with someone close to me.. I got over it at age 24, that was the day he sended me a long email that he misses me and wished he could turn back the time.

Sry for the long post, but this topic brought those memories back up cuz he was that first cute best friend at age 8 I experimented with..

A lot of you seem to have known since 10 or earlier. That’s like being ultra mega gay since it happened before puberty kicked in.

You made the decision that you we're gay at 18, but realized you might be gay at 14. That's the way I see it.

I knew it! It’s a lifestyle choice. Ugh. Damn degenerates.

I had crushes on both boys and girls since I was in kindergarten, about 5 years old. Of course I didn't know it had a name. But I knew I could tell everyone about my crush on a girl. But I had to keep my crushes on boys a deep dark secret. Funny, even queer, that I knew I couldn't say I had a crush on Jimmy Piccolo.

By the time I was about 10 I fully realized that every boy didn't feel the way I did. I had heard the word "homosexual" and wasn't sure what it meant but I thought it might apply to me.

So one day I asked my older sister, because older sisters are such fonts of wisdom :| , what is a homosexual? She told me it was a man who dressed up like a woman! :toogay: I was perplexed. I knew I sure as hell didn't want to be an icky girl. So OMG I thought I'm doomed. I want to be a boy with a boy, not a sissy in girl's clothes.

Okay, so it took me about two more years to realize that my sister's response was a homophobic cliche. But I knew I wanted to fuck boys when I was 10.

What you're attracted to is not your choice. However you still have to choose what you identify as. If this was not the case, then why are there many men who are in actuality gay but are in straight relationships identifying as straight?

Choosing to persist in delusion versus not doing so is not the same thing as “realizing” your identity, which requires acknowledgement of reality. That’s what the OP is about.

I've put 10 or under as I remember at that age I felt different, and knew I couldn't see myself married with a family when I grew up. I didn't identify as gay, as in those days (50s) there were no positive role models of homosexuality.

16. In the window from 13-16 I was so hormonal and attracted to girls as well as boys. It was very exhausting and scary because I had no idea what was going on.
But I guess when you're older being bi must be fun. Too bad that ship sailed at 16 when my body just knew women didn't do it for him anymore. I think I'm thankful for that too. Less confusion at least.

I was around 14-15 when I started getting curious about other guys.
I didn't have my first time with a guy until I was 18, but I wanted to long before that.

I picked 11. But im sure i knew before that. I just didnt realize til puberty fully hit. And i had no question on who or what i was more interested in.

A question to the people who didnt know to later.....

Were you dating? Was sex ever an option?

I kept dating girl's until about 20. But i knew sexually i wasnt into them. And have had to tell multiple "girlfriends" i was gay just because i knew i didnt want sex with them. And it wasn't fair to let them believe that.

I'm always fascinated by this. Because it was so obvious to me in straight porn who i was looking at. Accepting it is a different story. But i knew pretty much immediately. And if i didn't as soon as sex came up i would have known.

Clichè as it sounds, I always knew.

When I was a kid, I crushed on the boys and never the girls, who I got on famously with.

I remember being acutely aware, that most other boys weren't the same. To such an extent I was worried of people finding out and told myself that I wanted to be those boys I crushed on. I went out of my way to have girlfriends and be very public about having girlfriends. But I always knew it was pretend on my part, a role I was playing.

That all stopped really when I started playing doctors and nurses. I couldnt pretend that girls didnt interest me, even as a curiousity in that context.

From there it was less about convincing myself I was like everyone else and more about convincing everyone else of that fact.

I kept my secret until about 13, even from other boys i fooled around with (they would whitewash what we would do or explain it as practice, for the real thing with girls  speak for yourself! )

But a female friend of mine came out to me at school and I didnt hesitate to tell her, it wasnt difficult as I think i had always known and just needed something to let me know, it was okay to say it out loud, after that, I pretty much told anyone who asked, came out at school shortly after, came out to my family at 15 and from there, everyone knew.
