You're just mad I pointed out that nothingness has no value. But actually I have been extremely horny lately and I don't know why. It's possible that it affects my mood.

Same, except I have an idea what's causing it in my case. :P

The word “lately” seems inapplicable in your instance.

You seem to consistently think I walk around with a permanent semi trying to suck anything phallic I happen to cross paths with.

This is only a half-truth.

You didn’t really point out anything other than just miss the point. The point wasn’t that tautologically, nothing has no value. It’s that no pain is good when judged by the potential interests of a person who would otherwise have existed.

Does it involve a washing machine?

No, your point was that the absence of pain is good, but the absence of pleasure isn't bad, which makes no sense unless we're judging one of those conditions by comparison to the alternative and the other in isolation. If no pain is good when judged by the potential interests of a person who would otherwise have existed, the no pleasure is bad when judged the same way. Or put another way, no pain is better than the alternative and no pleasure is worse, while neither state has inherent moral value on its own. Accepting that, we can at least have a conversation about the supposed asymmetry of pain and pleasure, rather than explore inane metaphysics.

Looking back most of the guys I have been with were straight. some were just curious, but others liked having that submissive guy on the side. One guy I used to get with in highschool is married now and has 5 kids. We are still friends and he has said he no regrets. Just sucks he lives 3 states away now.

It involves certain medications and supplements.

No pleasure is worse than what? Not existing? Of course we’re not evaluating these states in a vacuum, that would be pointless. Quite honestly, I know of no one lamenting not birthing kids because of all of the possible elation they’re missing out on. Most of the time thought is given to what pain could be averted by not having a child that could, for instance, develop some disability or whatnot.

That speaks to this whole argument being about cognitive bias rather than ethics. Pain and horror are things that stick out in your memory and imagination, which is something a well-adjusted person compensates for rather than leans into. In Brenden's case, the condemnation of reproduction is just misanthropy. In yours, it's catastrophizing. Neither is rational and neither justifies an anti-social nihilistic worldview. I can accept it on the level of it being a weird quirk, but lets not act like it's some great, irrefutable truth that people are just too emotional to accept.

...Was this thread about fucking straight guys? I guess my opinion is pro-.

I don’t think it’s catastrophizing to just acknowledge that suffering it sort of inherent to existence. From the moment one is born, one craves, desires, yearns for almost everything. For life itself. Not to sound Buddhist, but it’s a never ending thirst that must be quenched. Love, hunger, you name it. All of that could be avoided without shrugging off the implications of willing life into existence. No one laments all the potential happiness that could be enjoyed by currently non-existent beings on Mars, but upon reflection we all are relived at the thought that potential wars and plagues haven’t befallen any civilization there that could exist.

...If I learned an alien civilization lived on Mars, my reaction would not be to grieve for their existence. It wouldn't even occur to me. That's so weird, pooler. You can acknowledge that suffering is inevitable without concluding that life isn't worth living. Even Buddhists aren't that pessimistic.

It isn’t about grieving about existence by itself but by comparison to their nonexistence. “Life is worth living” makes sense if you are already alive, not if you haven’t been born yet. You sound like that Monty Python catholic sketch of Every Sperm is Sacred.

No, I'm not into straight guys looking to experiment. I prefer guys who are gay or bi.

To actually answer the question, I wouldn’t have sex with a straight man. They’re straight and can go and have sex with a woman. That straight man would do well to remember to use a condom or else pregnancy might occur! :thumbsupwink:

You keep objecting when I make basic inferences. If you should be relieved that someone doesn't exist, you should be upset when they do. Whether they're already alive does not affect your premise that living is bad. These things follow each other. But if it's more clear, I will rephrase. I am not relieved that Martians don't exist. I think that's dumb. On the contrary, I wish they did. I think life is the only thing in the universe with any kind of meaning, and like the Buddhists, my belief is that suffering should be overcome, rather than supplanted with death or nonexistence.

Yes, why not? In fact, I had. A good friend of mine was single after he'd broken up with his girlfriend. He wasn't interested in relationships with women for a while but wanted sex. It felt weird for the first time but we both enjoyed it.
