I have been with an older boyfriend for 8 years now. I am 22 years younger. We get along like best friends but we never have sex. Is that normal in any way?

Yes, it's all normal. Dating doesn't necessarily have to involve sex. Your post isn't very explicit in the sex matters (I can't realise if you have never had sex or if you had it when you were partners but not now). If you're getting along like best friends, it makes not having sex even more normal.

If you’re a guy, there’s no way a relationship can work without sex. Men generally love sex and are very visual so in the long run, without sex, your man may start eying other guys.

Of course if you two are new and want to take very slowly, that’s a different story. Take your time and don’t rush into it.

My first question is — why are you not having sex in your relationship? If you don't know, I would say communication is an issue. You are 35 and he is 57. That means there is a better than 50% chance he is experiencing erectile dysfunction to some degree. "Normal" is a very broad category, and some couples are happy together without sex. If you are not happy then I think it is time for you two to talk.

The vast majority of relationships between gay men involve an active sex life, and for a lot of us it's a necessity and a dealbreaker. I was in a sexless relationship for over a year. It was absolutely horrible. I think some can make them work. There is no "normal" with this kind of thing. If you want to be in a relationship that has a satisfying sex life, break up with your bf. Don't waste time if you want to be with someone who pleases you sexually.
