Trying to get my head around an abrupt ending to one of those 'caught in the moment' periods where you convince yourself you've found something amazing.

Back in September I met a guy online who was married. I wasn't looking for an emotional connection but it just happened.

He said he was out to his wife and kids and parents, but was staying with his wife until the kids went to college and left home.

He's in America. I'm UK. We chatted constantly, facetimed, sent each other gifts, he told me all about his kids/showed me pictures.

I asked him if he was bi or gay and he said he had always been gay but got married and had kids cos it was the thing you just did.

Anyway - before Xmas he told me he couldn't keep doing it anymore and it would be impossible once he was back in the office all the time and had to do stuff with the kids school activities.

He never completely cut me out - we have text a bit since and then I pushed it a bit too far on valentine's day by sending a card which he barely acknowledged and now I've decided to just leave it.

His words - 'I hope to find you happy when I'm ready to come out'

So anyway - yes, i'm pretty stupid to think anything could have worked given we had not met up in real life (which all the worse now because I'll never know if i would have really had a physical connection).

Now i'm just thinking :

Was he just a bi guy playing me along?
Did he get in over his head with the thrill of it and then freak out?
Was he just telling me what I wanted to hear coz he's a prick?

Meh!

I think he might be gay and into you, but maybe he wasn't out to his family like he said and got caught with the card you sent or some gifts you exchanged. That could have caused some turbulence on his end that got him scared to take the leap. Either way, it's probably for the best. No matter the underlying reason, all this shows is that he wasn't ready.
