Christ, now I know how India and all those other colonies felt. Jezza just got kicked out of the Labour Party, do you guys want to talk about that?

*Suspended from. He’ll be back in my the end of next week. Antisemitism never did anybody any harm in the Labour Party.

Wait. I aimed for an implication that antisemitism is institutionalised in the Labour Party and hit “antisemitism is harmless”

Politics in the Labour Party is trickier than I gave them credit for. Maybe this is why Dianne Abbott is so hard to pin down to any specific point or message.

Either he'll be let back in and the endless Labour Civil War will continue.

Or.

He'll be kicked out, and everyone who only joined the party to support him and him alone will end up in the Green Party where at the next election nothing significant will change including the Tories having a majority.

I really have never grasped why there are Corbynites. He’s so uncharismatic. Like, I get the principles, I get why you’d follow those, just why him?

I am unable to provide any answers on that front.

I've never understood anybody forming any kind of cult of personality around anything so boring and bland as just some politician. Even being in agreement with him on most issues I still found myself utterly tired of him as a political entity by about the end of 2016.

I mean, Sanders isn't exactly a charisma powerhouse. People like him because he's one of a small handful of politicians in America who stand for something meaningful and are completely sincere. That's hard to find, especially on the "left". People misread that for a cult of personality because they've never experienced anything resembling conviction.

Fun fact: the Green Party of England and Wales has a communist wing!

René and I attended one of their meetings at one of the Green Party conferences.

So do we reckon Jeremy Corbyn potentially being kicked out of the Labour party will finally end the interminable petty civil war?

If it works, won't they just use the same tactics against the next guy? I believe it's wholly cynical.

I'm half-and-half on the subject. To be honest I haven't followed internal Labour politics that closely because I don't want to lose what little will to live I still have left. But I feel like enough of a stink has been kicked up, valid or not, that after the report was published and Corbyn put out his "they're making it sound worse because they want to destroy poor little me" statement there wasn't much else Starmer could have done but at least suspend the guy.

The labour party is in the midst of an identity crisis and neither corbyn being ejected, nor Starmer being in charge, are going to be able to resolve that issue.

Until Labour can really come out with a unified vision of what they stand for and who they represent, they will be completely ineffectual. As it stands, they have lost the support of their core voters, rather monumentally so, while failing to appeal to any but the most die hard, ardent Labour supporters, who would vote for the party, simply because they arent the other party or because their 'believers' and frankly, policy and individuals don't matter to those fruit cakes. Labour could campaign for fire bombing their homes and those loons would still vote for them.

The sad reality is that the tories are the only game in town.

That said, British approach to politics has always been, if the blues aren't giving you what you want, vote for one of the other colours. :runaway:

... and there's a new national lockdown in England starting Thursday.

Fucking awesome, and I mean that sincerely.

Don't think I can face my job for much longer without a break anyway, especially after last Tuesday, so this suits me down to the ground. Wonder if this'll finally be the lockdown that has me so bored I dye my hair blonde like so many other gay people did during the first one...

Trust me Twitter during lockdown was just full of gay twinks who'd dyed their hair blonde.

And yeah I'm far from a twink but I've entertained the thought of dying my hair before so who the fuck knows.

No word on a national lockdown in Scotland yet. There's a generally lower incidence of the virus up here, and I think they'll keep going with the regional tier response, but we'll see.

Well, this certainly passed me by. Should I bleaching my hair? Am I out of the loop and unfashionable once again? Oh no!

It's very possible this is actually a very obscure thing but my habit of following cute twinks on social media made me more aware of it than I would have been otherwise...

Unless you are a 20-year-old instagram influencer twink, I don't think you should be bleaching your hair.

I agree. He should bleach his bootyhole instead.
