Oh man, The Name of the Wind is one of the best books from the current millennium in my opinion. It's really too bad Wise Man's Fear was such utter shite. If anyone out there even remotely likes the fantasy genre, you HAVE to read The Name of the Wind.

I recently read Noam Chomsky's How The World Works, a treatise on how capitalism/America has fucked and is currently fucking over the rest of the world, though it focuses primarily the "south" (meaning South/Central America, Africa, and India). It's an easy read because it's written in a conversational style where other authors have compiled script on a huge variety of topics from dialogues with Mr. Chomsky. The downside is that whenever he makes ridiculous claims, there is no footnote to fact check with, so you kind of just have to take him at his word. Which, if you've read Chomsky, you'll know isn't always the easiest thing.

I've resumed reading The Wheel of Time. I believe I'm on book 7, a Crown of Swords.

It's definitely plodding along. If you thought A Feast for Crows was slow and boring, give this book a whirl. It definitely takes someone who is thoroughly engrossed in the characters and the world that Jordan created, which I am, to keep from substituting the Wikipedia plot summary for the actual book.

Hm, I thought Wise Man's Fears was quite good. A little slower, yes. The world building is over. But you've got to have something to set the stage for the obscene amount of epicness that Book 3 must be.

I am at the beginning of this book right now and it seems quite interesting. I like how Halo universe is so broad and the actual game isn't just shoot-shoot-bang-bang. It's actually a really nice story. And I like how only the combination of books and the actual games give you the complete story.

Wow, that takes me back. I must have read that book nearly a decade ago. Fascinating preface to the video games (which I never played). Good times.

I was about to start listing my problems with the book but I realized there's no way I could put it better than this guy does. It is a bit long but he makes it very entertaining.

edit: Hadrian if everything goes well I will be buying a car this weekend. We can finally meet up for drinks.

I feel like you could take any fantasy book, no matter how good, and make it sound ridiculous if you wrote about it like that. It's fantasy; it's not hard. All it really did was make me want to read Transmetropolitan..

Granted, I thought the "oh hey let me bang this immortal sex goddess for fifty pages and then bang every chick that comes my way though I looooooove Denna so much" part was mildly annoying, to say the least. But let's be honest here - we know damn well that Denna's been around the block, so is it really so bad for young Kvothe to catch up a bit?

I had totally forgotten about that. Drinks. Anytime. You're buying. I'll take a gin and tonic and guinness.

I just finished reading Halo: The Fall of Reach. One word: AWESOME. It is a great book and I was tempted to read everything at once but I do like my pleasures stretched out so I didn't.

I bought Guild Wars: Sea of Sorrows fer mah phone. Looks good so far, reasonably well written which is as much as you can say for most transmedia books. Thinking about buying one of the EVE books but from what I hear most are crap and I don't know which is the good one.

Bro if you want sci-fi space opera drama I got you covered without shitty transmedia adapts.

Scott Westerfeld, The Risen Empire
Vernor Vinge, Children of the Deep
Haldemann, The Forever War (more military sci fi but awesome)

Little Brother by Cory Doctorow.
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest (AW YISS!)
Spin by Robert Charles Wilson

And for those who pay over the average:

The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle
Just a Geek by Wil Wheaton

I guess that's my summer sorted.

Finally started reading the Game Of Thrones books. I'm still at the first one right now, but I really enjoy reading it. It's so detailed and it's nice to know a lot more about certain characters.

Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs. Not a bad read, even if it is slightly offputting that it takes place in 1994, with all the new tech we have now.

I actually enjoyed The Wise man's Fear. One of the coolest parts with the introduction to the Adem<--- bad ass motherfuckers. I do not mind the book at all. Does it have faults? Yes but I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. It was also really cool for Pat to add two gay characters. To me the story is still solid!

Ahhhh

I'm an avid fan of WoT, or was until the last book when he did something that I can't spoil for you, but it killed me. Almost made me cry. And I don't cry. I was so absorbed into the books that I've read the series over and over during the wait for the last one. I wish Jordan had wrote it himself, but his wife made a good decision with Sanderson. I think it's very easy to become absorbed into the book if you read it carefully. There's so many subtle little things that always give me goosebumps no matter how many time I read it.

And right now I'm trying to make it through Atlas Shrugged and the Malazan Empire series.

Here's a good link as to why the Third-Party Doctrine interpretation of the Fourth Amendment is not a very good one—for those who may be thinking I'm not concerned at all with privacy interests.

I have a big interest in life in Nazi Germany, I also like rich use of colour, so this is a good read for me:

Currently reading The Night Watch.

Image It's okay.

The WoT was a great series, but certainly a very in depth and time consuming process. Also, it pissed me off how I can tell the difference between the authors in the last three books.

I'm currently reading the third book of the Ice and Fire -series. I have managed to avoid any big spoilers regarding the third season of GoT up to this point which makes me glad. Have to watch that after I'm finished with the book.

"fucking dick" No it's fantastic because you don't get that passive feeling when reading the action sequences because you know "in the end they'll be okay".
