I’m trying to power through Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, and so help me god I will finish it, but there is something about Asimov’s writing style that I really struggle to get into a good flow with. I know I like a book when I can start reading it, lose all track of time and not want to put it down. More than once with this first book have I looked to see how much further I’ve got to get through in a chapter.

I've been meaning to reread them ever since Apple announced they were doing an adaptation of it because they're some of my favourite science fiction books ever.

For what it's worth his Robot series is also brilliant, and I think a bit easier-going to get through. Provided you like detective stories, that is. I wish they'd adapt them, too.

For the past couple days I’ve been reading Bernard Le Bovier de Fontanelle’s Conversations on the Plurality of Worlds. It’s an interesting work of natural philosophy, but rather dated seeing as it deals in heliocentrism.

Recent elections have thrust me back into being a politically obsessive moron so I'm reading The Great Rivalry: Gladstone vs Disraeli because clearly when you want to know more of politics, it's sensible to read a biography of two Victorian-era politicians rather than anyone modern or relevant to current events.

My current list:

1. The Flash Silver Age Omnbius Volume 3, because superhero comics are awesome.
2. The Histories by Herodotus, because I'm determined to find it interesting and actually finish it despite the ungodly impenetrable writing style of this man.
3. House of Hades by Rick Riordan, because I'm apparently a child.
4. Parliament, the Biography Volume 1: Ancestral Voices by Chris Bryant, because I'm a nerd.

... yeah it's no wonder I rarely ever actually finish a book is it?

Just finished Intellectuals and Society, by Thomas Sowell.

I found his thoughtful, far ranging and well reasoned take on academia and on those whose jobs it is the come up with ideas and little else, really thought provoking.

Thinking of reading more of his material.

Getting the urge to try and read the Warhammer 40k Horus Heresy series even though it's impossibly, stupidly long and I know I'll never finish it ever.

I wish I could get into warhammer, it ought to be something I like, but it just doesn't click for me

Closest I've ever got is playing total war, warhammet. Not quite the same really.

I’m listening to the audiobook of Bill Bryson’s Made in America, which is mainly about the development of US English, but goes on lots of interesting tangents. I really love his humour, and the little historical details he highlights are fascinating.

Indeed.. Ballard cuts himself a corner of classic sci fi entirely his own.. I'd say he's proto-new wave but most new wave authors could never match Ballard's quiet intensity

Just finished Dune Messiah, now moving into Children of Dune, and also simultaneously reading a book a friend gave me called Children of Time. It's a really interesting concept, but I'm having trouble getting into it.

"A Soldiers Recollections" By Randolf McKim.

An extremely interesting book put together by a Confederate veteran using his wartime journal fighting against the Union Army. He talks about everything from daily life in the camps, battles, religion, slavery, politics and everything in between. I love reading it, as it's an unbiased view into the life of your average Rebel soldier. It also doesn't hurt that the books shows very well. Embossed black leather with a motif, gold page edges, and a beautiful black satin page ribbon.

Currently reading Altered Carbon. It's not bad at all. Very cyberpunk meets detective novel. I was surprised that I liked it at first, honestly, now I'm just glad I picked it up. Never watched the show, now I kinda wish I had back when I had Netflix.

Nice! I read those a few years ago (listened to them on Audible to be more precise), and then God Emperor of Dune and Heretics of Dune. Now taking a break, reading some non-fiction before continuing the series. :)
