Paradox games are great. I've not got to CK yet, but Europa Universalis (Age of Imperialism) and Hearts of Iron (WWII period) are both fantastic. Such a massive time sink. That's no bad thing these days, though, given the virus and everything. :P

Yes. I agree. Also, I like "Stellaris" by Paradox.

Another one I've not tried yet. Looks pretty good. I've now conquered the world several times on EUIV, so conquering the entire galaxy is the logical next step.

Paradox strategy games are the absolute top-tier of my "games I desperately want to be good at but can never focus on enough to get remotely good at."

I love them so much but I'm so not cut out for them.

I'm pretty average at them. Some people go to just insane lengths to break them. I saw a guy on EUIV who conquered Europe as the Aztec. Oh, and I've seen a Mongol Khan become the Holy Roman Emperor. The best game I've had, I got a Russian conquest of France. Orthodoxy everywhere.

My brother is one of those "what's the most insane thing I can attempt at this?" kind of players.

OK, maybe I won't get addicted after all. This game is starting off very slowly.

It picks up around Chpt. III or IV

Stellaris (don't have much DLC, sadly), Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Disco Elysium. Papers, Please and Civ V are classics I go back to when I'm bored as well.

Is that the one where you're a border guard for an authoritarian state? I'd ilke to play that, sounds interesting. I'm playing a similar kind of game, Orwell, where you play an intelligence agent for a surveillance state, hunting "terrorists".

Yes, it is. I've gotten pretty good at it over the years that I've owned it. Orwell sounds interesting. Is it more like a flash game or a full-fledged puzzle adventure? Your description reminds me of this one trailer I saw where you play a spy in a boarding house. It was 2-D, but I can't remember the name.

It's a full game, you can get it on Steam! It's kind of a simulation game, you're basically just using the in-game computer system. Initially, you're doing detective work, monitoring suspects and trying to find a bomber. It get's progressively more sinister as you start to pry further into citizen's personal lives and begin to manipulate people, but I won't give anything more away. It's meant to make you think about the ethical problems around mass surveillance and state power. Much recommended.

Hit the third act "literally everything is on fire and gone to shit, dear god help" stage of Spider-Man so it's making me feel really bad when the plot is trying so hard to be really urgent but I'm spending hours just fucking about on rooftops collecting random tat and building new suits.

One of those ludonarrative dissonance moments that always happens in open-world games. The plot is like "help Spider-Man, supervillains are attacking this police precinct right now, they won't hold out long without you to help them, please get there as fast as you can!" and Spider-Man is just like "yeah I'll get to it once I've done like 50 other smaller tasks, it'll be fine."

I started “Control” (PS4) because it is free this month from PSN. It seems OK.

I tried the “Immortals Fenyx Rising” (PS4) demo, but I deleted it after playing for a little while.

“Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China” is free for PC. I don’t know if it is available for everyone. I received an e-mail about it from Ubisoft because I am an existing member.

Back on my obsession with Civilization VI where I play it most of the time every day. 4 years after this game released and somehow I'm still absolutely terrible at it. Logically I should have given up even bothering by now, but I just find it so satisfying to sink time into even if I never get anywhere.

I'm not playing a game right now, but later I'll be preparing my friend's brother for a scholastic chess tournament he's going to be playing in tomorrow. I'll also be playing in a long tournament, myself, next weekend. Aside from that, I've played Skyrim a bit this past week, but have been too busy to spend as much time playing as I'd like.

The Skyrim itch is back, so I have restarted that for approximately the hundredth time. May god have mercy on me.

I've rarely restarted. My permanent character (Beowulf, a Nord) is basically maxed. Still can't match the godlike power you could achieve in post-late game Morrowind. I miss summoning a literal undead army, roiding myself up into a super hulk, and jumping into space to punch the Godhead in its stupid face. A maxed Skyrim character is just particularly shouty. CHIM denied. :(

I do have a bitchin' tentacle staff, though, so that's pretty cool.

My whole thing with Skyrim restarts is just indecision about the build. My instinct is always to go pure Thief skills build because the stealth in Skyrim is absolutely fucking broken once you put any perks into it at all.

But I always have this nagging urge to go for a pure Mage build because in every other fantasy thing I love being a spellcaster. But the magic system in Skyrim is something I've never been particularly good at working with... plus whenever I play a mage I just see all those locked chests and think "ooh if I were a thief I could crack that and get more stuff."

I wish Skyrim had the 'open lock' spell that Oblivion apparently has.

Sometime I really should try to see if I can make a build that's a stealth-based character that uses magic to help with the thievery shenanigans. Like sending NPCs into frenzy so they kill each other while I sit in the shadows undetected, or just using spells to calm them while I line up the sneak attack headshot or creep into position behind them for the backstab.

ETA: Also if you want god-like overpowered nonsense, that's what mods are for.

I started Skyrim. It seemed like a fine game, but I couldn't get completely into it. I wasn't sure what I should do or where I should go. I was probably playing it wrong.
